Announced in a teaser trailer on New Year’s Day, the Netflix adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events will be returning on March 30th, 2018 for its second season. In true Lemony Snicket fashion, there was a bit of a scavenger hunt for the trailer before it was officially released.
« There’s no happy endings,
not here and not now,
this Verse is all Fluctuation and woes,
you might dream that justice and peace win the day,
but that's not how the Declaration goes (.com) » 👁🔍 pic.twitter.com/INXuvss5Hw— A Series of Unfortunate Events (@Unfortunate) January 1, 2018
The official Twitter page for A Series of Unfortunate Events posted the cryptic tweet above on New Year’s Day. Fans of the series were quick to put the puzzle together – VFD, if you were wondering. Upon solving the puzzle, the site directs you to another cryptic poem written in Lemony Snicket’s hand:
A new year has arrived to traverse
Note that you likely may feel very terse
Awaiting the year
You are quite right if you fear
Below the surface it only gets worse.
Below the poem was a link to Netflix’s main hub for A Series of Unfortunate Events where the teaser trailer could be seen.
Count Olaf addresses the Netflix audience in the trailer before short snippets of the show are actually shown. The second series will cover the material from books 5 through 7: The Austere Academy, The Ersatz Elevator, and The Vile Village.
A Series of Unfortunate Events is an adaptation of the 13-book series by the same name written by Lemony Snicket. The series follows the Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Sunny, and Klaus, as they continuously fall into worse situations trying to avoid the evil Count Olaf. After the poor film adaptation released in 2004, the first season of the Netflix series, starring Neil Patrick Harris and Patrick Warburton, was extremely well received. Lemony Snicket not only produced the Netflix series but also had a large part in writing the screenplay.
