Halo fans rejoice! A Halo character has been teased for the new Season 3 DLC headed for Killer Instinct (and at a prompt time with Mortal Kombat X’s DLC dropping soon). Microsoft and developer Iron Galaxy are bringing in the Arbiter character from the series, and the featured image above teases it in mid-action. To give a sense of scale and orientation to the Arbiter for those who aren’t familiar, here’s a full shot of one:
Killer Instinct was released as a free-to-play title for the Xbox One in 2013 with only one playable character; the newer fighting game model has seen success for a lot of fighters such as Tekken in the past. It functions with a business model that works for shorter “round” style-like games such as Hearthstone. It’s unclear how long the model will last for the KI franchise, but we’re seeing a lot more “crossover” characters such as the Arbiter (Yoda, Jason Voorhees, and even a Xenomorph are characters in fighting games now). Some could argue it diminishes the “branding” of game franchises. Focus has been pulled from delivering a different fighting experience towards fighting with different characters and revamped fighting styles.
