Arrow season six ended with Oliver Queen heading to prison after accepting a deal with the FBI in order to rid his city of Ricardo Diaz. Queen also publicly revealed himself as the Green Arrow.
Many fans have speculated that this ending would set up a story arc originating from David S. Goyer’s canceled Green Arrow movie titled “Green Arrow: Escape from Supermax”. It now appears that this is indeed what the show plans on adapting to the small screen.
To see evidence of this, look no further than the official synopsis for Arrow season seven:
“There has been no shortage of close calls for Oliver Queen when it comes to protecting his Super Hero identity, but in the season six finale, he was finally backed into a corner and forced to reveal himself to the world as the Green Arrow. Now, Oliver will come face-to-face with many of the criminals he placed behind bars, as he makes a new home for himself at Slabside Maximum Security Prison. Oliver will find himself vulnerable in a way unlike ever before when a mysterious new enemy begins to unravel his work as Green Arrow, challenging him to redeem his name or risk losing everything.”
In the scrapped 2008 film, the Green Arrow was framed for murder and sent to a supermax prison. This version of Oliver Queen would act much like the one seen in the CW series, a darker and more brutal vigilante. The plot was rumored to revolve around Queen working with some of the criminals he helped incarcerate in order to escape and learning to be a better hero in the process.
While it’s likely that Arrow will be adapting the Escape from Supermax storyline, it is unlikely that this arc lasts more than a few episodes. Mainly due to the yearly crossover event that will happen sometime in December. This crossover will be centered around the city of Gotham and Batwoman, who will be making her first appearance in the Arrowverse.
