The Hearthstone Director, Ben Brode, has decided to leave Blizzard to start up his own company. He made the official announcement yesterday on Blizzard Forums.
The message started off straight to the point. He said: “After 15 years at Blizzard and almost 10 years working on Hearthstone, I have made the incredibly difficult decision to embark on a new journey.” He then went on to tell a bit about his history with Blizzard and how he started off as a ‘Night Crew Game Tester’ and then joined ‘Team 5’.
Most of the message tells fans how incredibly lucky he was to be apart of Blizzard and working on Hearthstone, but he also comments on the fact that he could not have done it all without his team. He even states that he will miss the community that revolves around Hearthstone along with the fan-base. Near the end of his message, he explains why he has decided to leave the company, saying:
“I am very fortunate to be able to take a crazy risk right now in my life, and I’m excited to be scrappy and a little scared. I’m going to help start a new company. We’ll probably make games, but we haven’t figured anything else out, yet. I’m looking forward to designing, programming, and actually creating things again. I’m going to miss the on-campus Starbucks, though. Dang.”
Brode finishes the message by thanking everyone for their support and how much he loved every minute of it. It was only on April 12, 2018, that the eighth expansion pack, The Witchwood, for Hearthstone was released This set consists of 135 collectible cards and was the last project Brode worked on with his team.
