Darkwood only recently got its full release, originally going through Early Access, just like many indie games on Steam. This creepy, top-down survival horror title is now available with its full release, and developer Acid Wizard Studio has a brand new trailer to creep you out and entice you to enter the world of Darkwood. Check out the trailer below:
Darkwood ticks many of the boxes that indie games on Steam like to have now: the sinister woods are procedurally generated, making every playthrough unique. The art style is pretty, but different to most of what is out there; it reminds me of some unholy union between 2Dark and Don’t Starve. And, like Don’t Starve, it features resource management, base building, and all sorts of beasties that hunt you once it gets dark. It looks like it would be unpleasant to fight off some of these monsters without a base set up.
There are a few elements that make Darkwood sound like a unique experience. It is pure survival horror, but the developers claim that it is more about dread and suspense than “jump out and play a loud noise” fright. There are also a variety of characters to meet and interact with, and your decisions about how to deal with these characters will have an effect on the world and have consequences that will affect the entire playthrough. It also just seems to have a fascinating design; Darkwood looks genuinely creepy, but unlike much of what is available on Steam.
You can pick Darkwood up now, as it just hit its full PC release. As of this writing, it has a “Very Positive” user review rating on Steam, and Acid Wizard Studio is offering 10% off until August 24. Check out the game’s official website here, and we will have more on the game as news becomes available.
