Cosmic Ghost Rider is full of different concepts and trials that make you turn your head and go, “what?!”. Marvel has outdone themselves with this comic they have pushed beyond the walls of rational thinking and here is why. Cosmic Ghost Rider is Frank Castle, you read it correctly, Frank Castle aka THE PUNISHER. After Castles demise in Thanos #16, killed by debris- not the best way for Castle to die, Castle became the Spirit of Vengence. Can you believe it THE PUNISHER is now GHOSTRIDER! His purpose for becoming the Spirit of Vengence is to kill Thanos. In the first comic you see Castle attempt the Penance Stare on Thanos, and it doesn’t work the way he intended. Thanos can’t get enough and insists on giving Ghost Rider a gift. He takes Castle to Galactus for that gift.
Can you imagine what that particular gift is? Let me help you, THE POWER COSMIC! Frank Castle now isn’t just Ghostrider he becomes Cosmic Ghost Rider! That is insane, upon receiving this gift he then serves Thanos for a while and again is in battle with The Avengers, however this time he opposes them. Dying in action at the hands of Mijolnir Castle is sent to Asgard. That concludes the first comic, and if that isn’t insane, I don’t know what is.
The writer Donny Cates is indeed a genius and probably a little off his rocker to come up with a storyline this crazy. Fans have appreciated and loved this comic since its release on the fourth of July 2018. Reaching number ten on the list of comic book sales charts. Where do you go from that insanity? Cates has found a way. Opening in Asgard, Castle isn’t sure where he is so like Punisher fashion he starts wreaking havoc. So much chaos goes on, and Odin finally steps in.
Odin contests that Castle doesn’t belong on Asgard and insists that he allows him to send him on his primary mission. Not knowing what that was or why Odin would help, Castle begged Odin to bring his family back and allow them to live out their lives. Castle emplores his willingness to stay on Asgard, not as a threat but a silent citizen. Odin could not oblige Castles plea, and he further explains that Frank Castle murdered by Mijolnir was wrong and as King of Asgard Odin must correct it. Castle had again escaped death clutches. Coming back with his primary mission, Cosmic Ghost Rider is now on track to kill Thanos. Odin sends Castle to the turning point in history that would be most affected by Thanos Death.
Castle shows up at the birth of Thanos and immediately realizes it. He hesitates to kill Thanos after his Penance Stare doesn’t work on a pure newborn. Instead, the Cosmic Rider kidnaps Thanos and takes him to Galactus. Now he is still in the time of Thanos as an infant. Galactus as expected freaks out because he has no idea of who Frank Castle is. Fighting for Galactus to believe him, Castle tells him to touch him. He will see the power Cosmic was or will be given to him by Galactus.
As soon as this occurs, Galactus knows and decides to kill Baby Thanos Uatu The Watcher shows up. Uatu shows the Cosmic Rider the outcome of him taking Thanos. Castle RAISES THANOS!! By changing the future, and not for the better, The Guardians of the Galaxy is an entirely different team. Consisting of Cable, Juniper, a morphed version of Rocket and Groot, Ms.Marvel with Captain Americas Sheild and Juggerduck- Howard, the Duck with Juggernauts power. That is the ending page of Issue #2. I can’t wait for Issue #3 releases September 5, 2018. It is hard even to fathom the unhinged timeline that Donny Cates and Marvel have just birthed. This comic is by far one of the best today! A big thank you to my local comic book store West Orange Comics and Videogames in Ocoee, Florida for ordering this and suggesting it to me.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to Issue #3?
