Rumours have been spreading on the internet that DayZ will be hitting consoles sometime in 2018. This is true as the lead producer, Eugen Harton, has posted a very lengthy update on the DayZ website. The developers have also announced that the game will be coming out of Early Access on PC.
Eugen Harton said:
As soon as the PC BETA is headed in a way we like, we’re still committed to bringing DayZ to Xbox, where we have a large community of gamers patiently (very patiently!) waiting for a truly hardcore online survival game. All of that will (and must) happen next year – meaning we’re just about to start what could possibly be the most exciting year for DayZ so far. In short: DayZ will be out of Early Access next year, and we’ll also finally deliver it to console players in 2018.
He then goes on to say that the team wants to carry on working on the game as they would like to keep it alive as long as possible. This game was originally a mod for Arma 2 back in 2009, which became a standalone game in 2013. DayZ has been in Early Access for four years now and will be finally be coming out of it next year.
Bohemia Interactive has suggested that the game will be coming out to consoles since way back at Gamescom 2014 when Dean “Rocket” Hall announced on stage that the game will be making its way to PlayStation 4. Hall said, “Creating the PS4 version has given us cause to expand the overall project”. The multiplayer open world survival third-person shooter’s initial release was meant to leave early access in early 2016. They also were hoping to have the console prototype ready at the end of 2015, but, obviously, this was not the case.
