It’s been a while since Marvel and gaming fans have gotten to explore the busy Manhattan cityscape as Marvel’s iconic web-slinger, Spider-Man. There were plenty of Spidey games in recent years, including adaptations ready-made for the Andrew Garfield Amazing Spider-Man film franchise. But neither of those games got much praise. Of course, that’s a tall order when the benchmark is 2004’s adaptations of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 2. Then, at E3 last year, Insomniac Games revealed their latest project – a completely original Spider-Man game, exclusive to PS4.
Fans craved more information ever since. And this year’s E3 delivered. During the PlayStation conference, Sony dedicated a fair amount of time to showing off more of the game. This included a 7-minute demo that saw Spidey fighting many members of his iconic rogues gallery. Electro, Scorpion, Rhino, and Vulture all made appearances. And uniting them all was the man built up as the main antagonist of the game – Mr. Negative. They showed more gameplay than fans have seen yet. Then they revisited bits they’d shown at last year’s PlayStation Experience.
The game features loads of customization options, as well as different costumes (thankfully). And also doesn’t have microtransactions or anything of the sort, locking cosmetics or progression. The combat system clearly draws the one made popular in the Batman Arkham series. Insomniac Games’s Spider-Man releases in September.
