BlizzCon 2017 has had grand announcements for nearly every popular Blizzard title: a new hero is coming to Overwatch, a new expansion to Hearthstone, and Starcraft II is going free to play. Heroes of the Storm, Blizzard’s answer to League of Legends and Dota 2, is also getting some love. Several game changes, as well as two new heroes, are headed to the game in the upcoming “Dragons of the Nexus” update. Watch the cinematic trailer below:
That’s right, the Dragon Queen herself – Alexstrasza – is on the way. Also, everyone’s favorite punching bag Overwatch character: Hanzo.
Overwatch heroes have been taking Heroes of the Storm by storm, with Ana and Junkrat joining just a few months ago. So let’s talk about the Warcraft universe’s Alexstrasza first. The “Dragons of the Nexus” page describes her as “A durable Ranged Support who transforms into a mighty dragon.” The Dragon Queen has some powerful healing abilities, sacrificing her own lifeforce to heal her allies. She can also unleash powerful fireballs on her foes.
Hanzo, the Master Assassin, will hopefully not avoid quite as many objectives as he does in Overwatch. In Heroes of the Storm, he is described as “A skillful Assassin who deals tremendous damage from long range.” He brings most of his abilities over with him, using a variety of different arrows to deal heavy damage. One of his Heroic Abilities, “Dragon’s Arrow,” sounds like it travels the length of the map.
This update is coming as part of the Heroes of the Storm 2018 gameplay update. This update will also include changes to stealth heroes, a new camera perspective, a tweaked early game, and updated mercenaries. Blizzard has also promised upgrades to the voice chat system and the matchmaking process. There is no official word on when the patch will release, but it sounds like it is headed our way in a few months. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
