With recent reports suggesting that the release of the final season of Game of Thrones could be pushed back until 2019, HBO needs to pull something special out of the hat with Season 7 to keep fans happy before the long wait. Luckily, judging by the latest trailer and promotion posters, it looks as though this could be the most epic installment of the hit series to date.
The reason why production of the final season of the seventh best TV show of all time according to Empire may be delayed is that the showrunners David Benioff and D.B Weiss haven’t yet begun writing the script or planning the production schedule. According to HBO programming chief Casey Bloys, the writers want to give the show the send-off it deserves, and are not willing to cut corners or rush things. Other slightly upsetting news is that season 8 will only be six episodes long, as it will feature more elaborate battle scenes that will cost a lot more to make than anything we have seen to date.
But it’s not the end of the world. Game of Thrones geeks have plenty of Westeros-themed things to keep them entertained at the moment and there will be much more to come. As it stands, fans can supplement their viewing with the engaging Game of Thrones Telltale Games series, the Risk-like board game based on the show, and the Game of Thrones slot game, which features all four houses of Westeros and a fantasy aesthetic taken from the show, and is available to play at a number of the best online casino games sites.
In addition to these games, HBO has confirmed that there will be spin-offs to follow once the main series wraps up. There are numerous well-known writers who want to get involved with projects including Max Borenstein, Jane Goldman, Brian Helgeland, and Carly Wray. There could potentially be multiple series based on other time periods in George RR. Martin’s complex fantasy world. It has been confirmed that the tale of Robert’s Rebellion won’t be one of the spin-offs, as a lot of that will soon be covered in flashbacks on Game of Thrones. There could, however, be something on Dunk and Egg or perhaps the rise of the Mad King.
Any future series based in Martin’s epic universe would doubtlessly be an instant hit, as hard-core GOT fans will seek something to ease their withdrawals after the end of the original show. It would also be wise to assume that the new projects would also spill out into other media such as games. Judging by the popularity of the Game of Thrones slot game and the fact that plenty of other top online slots picks are themed on TV shows, one would expect a casino offering. The Telltale Games series has also received excellent reviews, and the game developers may seek to snap up the rights to new material quickly.
In the meantime, we still have season 7 to look forward to, which is edging ever closer. There is plenty to get excited about, and the big question on everyone’s lips at the moment is whether Jon Snow will finally find out his true parentage.
