The first trailer for the rebooted Lost in Space series, which will stream on Netflix, has dropped. The Robinson family continues to explore after the Earth reaches its limit; resources are dwindling, and the Robinson family seems to be setting out on an adventure to space to discover a new place to survive. The exact details of the backstory are uncertain at the moment, but little snippets of information from the trailer show us that the world is running low on food.
So where does that put the Robinson family and Dr. Zachary Smith on their journey to outer space? The trailer also alludes to a crash, where our heroes will have to fight to survive on an alien world completely different than Earth. Check out the trailer below.
The official description for the rebooted Lost in Space is as follows:
Set 30 years in the future, colonization in space is now a reality, and the Robinson family is among those tested and selected to make a new life for themselves in a better world. But when the new colonists find themselves abruptly torn off course en route to their new home they must forge new alliances and work together to survive in a dangerous alien environment, light-years from their original destination. Stranded along with the Robinsons are two outsiders who find themselves thrown together by circumstance and a mutual knack for deception. The unsettlingly charismatic Dr. Smith (Posey) is a master manipulator with an inscrutable end game. And the roguish, but inadvertently charming Don West (Ignacio Serricchio) is a highly-skilled, blue-collar contractor, who had no intention of joining the colony, let alone crash landing on a lost planet.
The last time the 1965 television series was rebooted, it was in the form of the 1998 movie of the same name. Â It starred Gary Oldman, William Hurt, Mimi Rogers, and Matt LeBlanc and has an aggregated critic score of 27% on Rotten Tomatoes. Yeah, not too great.
The new Lost in Space series on Netflix stars Toby Stevens (Black Sails) as John Robinson, Molly Parker (Deadwood) as Maureen Robinson, and Parker Posey (House of Yes, Superman Returns) as Dr. Smith. It’ll be available to stream on Netflix on April 13.
