Many different video game series have made the jump to a movie screen, albeit often with much criticism. Indeed, the popular World of Warcraft’s own take on a movie is coming out in only a couple of weeks. However, the popular Mirror’s Edge game franchise will be making a different move – to become a television series. Endemol Shine Studios just recently acquired the property to adapt for TV.
In an interview with Deadline and Sharon Hall, who is the president of Endemol Shine Studios, Hall said that she believes Mirror’s Edge is large enough to reach around the world. “We clearly see Mirror’s Edge as a franchise for the global TV audience,” Hall said. “It has a strong female protagonist, a wildly rabid fan base and a worldwide brand that Electronic Arts and EA DICE have done an amazing job establishing.”
Mirror’s Edge was published by EA and EA DICE in 2008, and centers on a woman named Faith Connors. Faith is a runner (basically a messenger who does parkour) in her dystopian future. She becomes drawn into a conspiracy when her sister is framed for murder and Faith tries to clear her name.
The series will soon be getting another video game added to the franchise as well, in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. This game is scheduled to release on June 7th. For continuing covering of both Mirror’s Edge Catalyst and the upcoming television series, follow us on our Facebook and Twitter!
