Even though I just finished shoveling the snow from my driveway, I can’t help but think that baseball is really just around the corner. With spring training starting in a mere couple of weeks it is also time to start thinking about the next round of baseball games. Of course the biggest release every year is the PlayStation exclusive series MLB The Show. Sony has just released their first look trailer for MLB The Show 18 which features rookie of the year, Aaron Judge, on the cover.
From the getgo, it is apparent that the developers at SIE San Diego Studio are going all out ensure the visuals are as close to what you’d expect from a trip to the ballpark. From extra coarse cleat marks in the batter’s box to celebratory bat flips after a dinger, MLB The Show 18 seems to be all about details. There are even fans of specific players in the stands supporting their favorite athlete. For example, we see a group of fanatics dressed in powdered wigs and judge’s robes. One has to assume that is for the aforementioned Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees.
While this level of detail may be surprising, the biggest surprise has to be near the end of the trailer when we see a far more famous Yankee at the plate. Perhaps the most famous ballplayer of all time, Babe Ruth makes an appearance and calls his shot, as he famously did in baseball lore. Ruth isn’t the only Hall of Famer to grace the game. We also see Ken Griffey Jr. in his Mariners jersey taking a couple of hacks at the ball.
Check out the trailer for all of the new in-game goodies but there are sure to be plenty of surprises. Afterall, in my memory, I don’t really ever remember seeing a true 7th inning stretch in a baseball game before. MLB The Shoe 18 releases March 27, 2018, and will only appear on the PS4.
