A first look at Netflix and Noelle Stevenson’s upcoming She-Ra reboot, She-Ra and the Princess of Power, has been revealed along with a release date. Fans of the series rejoiced when the announcement of the project dropped last December through Netflix and Dreamworks.
She-Ra: Princess of Power started as a spinoff series of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe back in 1985 in an effort to create a show that would appeal to young girls. The collaboration between Mattel and cartoon studio, Filmation, centered around the adventures of Princess Adora, aka She-Ra, the long-lost sister of Prince Adam, also known as He-Man. We have seen many iterations and revivals of the He-Man franchise, but this will be the first time we get a resurrection of She-Ra on our television screens.
Entertainment Weekly has published a first look at the redesigned series, which features a promising, sleek new look and is set to premiere on November 16th, 2018. The reboot will follow the same story as the original series, starting with Princess Adora’s kidnapping by the sinister Hordak as a child and her upbringing within his evil horde.
Noelle Stevenson, the 26-year-old Eisner Award-winning cartoonist, will helm the series as showrunner. Her work on Nimona and Lumberjanes garnered her massive attention in the comics community, and she’s bound to gain even more success with the revitalization of the She-Ra story. “[She-Ra] has this majority female cast, it’s centered around a female hero, it’s got rainbows and it’s got robots, it’s got everything I like in one place,” said Stevenson when asked about her excitement for the project.
Given Stevenson’s track record of creating fantastic female characters for young girls to look up to, we predict that She-Ra and the Princess of Power has a bright future ahead of it. We can’t wait to return back to Etheria and watch the adventures of Princess Adora once again, and luckily we won’t have to wait too long to do just that.
