For multiple years running the Call of Duty franchise has included a zombie mode with the game. It typically focuses on a four-player co-op experience where gamers use the weaponry available in the other modes to fend off waves of the approaching undead. For example, in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, the zombies wore and utilized the same high tech exoskeleton suits players used in the story missions and multiplayer. In a new interview, Sledgehammer Games has revealed what their take on the zombie mode will be when they release Call Of Duty: WWII.
One of the biggest changes is that these zombies are unlike traditional zombies, who are infected with a virus or plague. In Call Of Duty: WWII, zombies are actually purposely created by the Nazis. They are held together with bolts and metal, kind of like extra evil Frankenstein monsters. The purpose of creating the zombies is for their use as soldiers to fight the Allies.
Sledgehammer also takes great effort to explain the focus on horror in this iteration of the zombie mode. Call Of Duty: WWII zombie mode will be dishing out the scares in many ways. Jump scares and being chased by zombies will bring some of the more tension-filled moments. The creepy environments that progressively become more disturbing are some of the more subtle horror elements. Lastly, the story itself is meant to envoke fear in the players. As Creative Director, Cameron Dayton, states, “Little by little you realize it’s worse than you thought and it keeps getting worse”
Another change coming to Call Of Duty: WWII zombie mode is that the campaign will have a casual path that will hit all the major points to be discovered. Deeper in the game and in its levels is a more hardcore path where those willing to invest the time can learn more about the story and have a more challenging time. Call of Duty: WWII releases November 3, 2017, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
