Niantic and The Pokemon are jumping headfirst into the Johto region, as they announced earlier this week that they’d be releasing the gen 2 update. The renovation will add 80 new Pokemon for users to catch, all natives of the region from Gold and Silver, as well as new items.
The Razzberries, which helps make Pokemon easier to catch, will be joined by two new berries that each have a different effect to aid a successful capture. Using the Pinap Berry will double the amount of candy earned as a result of catching a Pokemon, while the Nanab Berry slows the intended targets movements.
The update will also see the introduction of evolution items. The Pokemon evolution list consists of Crobat, Bellossom, Politoed, Espeon, Umbreon, Slowking, Steelix, Scizor, Kingdra, Tyrogue, Hitmontop, Blissy.
The Johto league starters are obviously front and center, with Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile among the 80 new additions. Though they aren’t actually the first Generation 2 creatures added to the game, as Niantic released a small update in December adding Togepi, Togetic, Pichu, Elekid, Smoochum, Magby, Igglybuff, and Cleffa.
Alongside the new Pokemon and items, Niantic will also release some aesthetic items as well. The latest update will give players the ability to purchase new outfit and accessory for customizing their avatar.
While the mobile game grossed $100 million in revenue in its first 20 days, a record that isn’t likely to be broken anytime soon, it has seen a rapid fall off since it’s first month. It should be interesting to see if the Gen 2 update manages to bring back old players and please players that have been patient enough to stick with the game throughout all this time.
