If you had told me back in late 2015 that Rainbow Six Siege would still be releasing new, free content I’d have been pretty skeptical based on how slow it started. Yet a little over two years later, Ubisoft has rolled out the latest expansion for Year 3, ‘Operation Chimera.’
Easily Rainbow Six Siege’s most ambitious expansion yet, Chimera introduces a new, limited time game mode, two new operates, and a bevy of new cosmetic items. All of these center around the biohazard, zombie theme displayed in the new game mode, Outbreak.
Outbreak pits players (3-player co-op) against a mysterious parasite infection in New Mexico. Essentially it’s like a mix of Left 4 Dead and Call of Duty Zombies, with a more extraterrestrial element. The PvE (Players vs Enemies) mode will run from now until April 3, 2018, and will likely return in some form in the future.
The updates two new operators are Oliver “Lion” Flamet and Lera “Finka” Melnikova. “Lion” is a french attacking operator that comes with a drone capable of revealing enemy movement in a certain area. “Finka” is a Chernobylian attacking operator that has special nanobots that will boost HP and steady aim for herself and her team.
Alongside the aforementioned cosmetics, the patch will also implement balance changes for some operators. Ela is getting nerfed, while Blitz is getting a rewrite in the stats department. A few bug fixes and quality of life changes will also be rolled out, including tweaks to melee attacks and walking on deployable shields.
‘Operation Chimera’ is already live on PC, PS4, and Xbox One worldwide. To read the full patch notes, head over the link listed here.
