Last weekend it was confirmed that Sylvester Stallone would be reprising his role as John Rambo, both starring in and writing the script for Rambo 5.
Today, we have brand new promotional art for the film, featuring an outline of Stallone kneeling down, stabbing his knife into the ground, with the film’s title located right under him in black lettering.
The story will pick up with Rambo now retired, working on a ranch. When the daughter of one of his friends is kidnapped by the Mexican cartel, John has no other choice but to hunt them down to get her back. The film looks to be as gruesome as ever, as Rambo is headed for an all-out war with the cartel.
The title is being produced by Avi Lerner, who Stallone also worked with on The Expendables. It has been reported that Lerner has been shopping the movie around the Cannes this week, a fact now proved true thanks to the poster.
In the past, Stallone has stated that he was done with the Rambo character and series. While an exact reason hasn’t been given as to why he changed his stance, the fact that fourth installment in the series, Rambo (2008), did so poorly could be an indication that he doesn’t want to end on such a sour note.
At the moment, Stallone is currently hard at work filming the sequel to Creed, the first spinoff movie in the Rocky franchise, starring Michael B. Jordan, which saw massive success. According to Deadline, Rambo 5 is expected to start shooting (literally) in September.
While the poster reveals a ballpark of 2019, no release date for the film has been confirmed as of now. For more information, be sure to check back to the site for updates, as well as all of your other nerdy news and needs!
