It is time once more for Speedrun Fast, and today we’re featuring the triumphant return of a series perpetuated by its protagonist’s entry in Smash Bros. Well, you’ve read the title, so technically that hint is moot. Kid Icarus: Uprising was a fantastic 3DS release and a fitting adventure for Pit. So the immediate question asked by speedrunners: how fast can we Pit? Let’s find out. This run came in earlier this month, so everything you’re about to see is completely up-to-date.
Do not adjust your video speed. It did not somehow get set to run at x2. Joeypals is actually playing Kid Icarus: Uprising so quickly that enemies don’t have a chance to move. And apparently Pit thinks his player-provided hedgehog-like speed gives him the right to steal heart containers from the Legend of Zelda. And, um, did Viridi just break the fourth wall at 2:09:45?
Joeypals has done a tremendous amount of work running Kid Icarus: Uprising. Years of it, in fact. He holds the record for every category for which there’s a submitted run, has assembled a 21-video how-to guide detailing techniques and strategies for each chapter – excluding those that need none – and is even credited with optimizing the weapon choice for story mode.
Kid Icarus: Uprising delighted audiences when it took flight in 2012, breathing modern life into a franchise that hadn’t seen the light of day since 1991. Over twenty years spent in the Underworld, sheesh. The game was worth the wait, and it’s all but guaranteed we won’t have to wait that long for another. Just try to ignore the realization that it’s already been six years since Uprising.
