Starting today, Ubisoft is running a weekend promotion where players can get Watch Dogs on PC for free. The only catch? Simply sign up for a Uplay account.
Centering around a skilled hacker named Aiden Pearce, set in a near future Chicago, the originally Watch Dogs was met with mixed reviews. While the game featured interesting mechanics, like utilized an in-game cell phone to tamper with the city’s infrastructure in destructive ways, many found the game didn’t meet the high expectations that had been set at previous events showing off the game.
Personally, I still enjoyed the game when I purchased it, much later, but would agree that it wasn’t worth the full $60 price tag. Is it worth being free though? Absolutely. Though there are plenty that would argue that, as Uplay hasn’t always been a fan favorite service.
Introduced in 2012, Ubisoft’s proprietary game client faced the criticisms that many digital distribution services (Steam, Origins) had problems with at their outset. Amongst many concerns, players complained that games were broken and never fixed, library’s lacked organization tools, and logins were way too inefficient (in either loading times or password resets).
Like other clients though, its seen a lot of improvements in the last five years, so downloading Uplay to get the free game may not be the burden it once was for players.
Keep it forever right?
