Nintendo just released a minute update for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the game that was released with the system. Apparently, the exact details on the patch are unknown. Nintendo seems to be secretive about what they really changed with this update. But one thing we know for certain, according to Nintendo’s website, is that “adjustments have been made to make for a more pleasant gaming experience.” Well, being certain is a little tough with this vague statement. It’s up to players to find out what sort of changes were really made as they play.
The release of the newest ‘Zelda’ game alongside the Switch was a smart marketing decision by Nintendo. The popularity of the ‘Zelda’ franchise secured the sale of over 1.5 million Switch consoles within the first week! These sales, according to Nintendo, surpassed those of the Wii within the same time frame. They also went on to say that the Switch was the fastest selling console to date in the Americas. So to release the new ‘Zelda’ game with the console was a smart idea, as it’s clear that this marketing plan boosted sales. It’s even smarter that Nintendo updated the game, as small as a patch as it was.

According to Gamespot, players had complained about the drop of FPS when playing Breath of the Wild. There were apparently some jittery areas when players would be in highly populated areas in the game (like Kakariko Village, Hateno Village, areas in the Great Plateau, and Korok Forest). FPS would drop, screens would slow down. The game also had troubles when connected to a TV and ran better when in the handheld mode. The patch smoothed these issues out. The same patch was given to the Wii version of the game, and that makes for a universal fix.
Again, the patch was small. But this sort of maintenance done on Nintendo’s part is promising. If these smaller issues were rooted out this quickly, it can be expected that other, bigger issues the Switch has in the future will be handled in the same timely fashion. The company is on top of their game when it comes to managing their systems (even their previous gen console). The fantastic looking ‘Zelda’ game looks a lot better now, and that’s definitely a change worth talking about.
