After watching their relationship evolve 1000-Lb Sisters‘ fans have not taken Amy Slaton and Michael Haterman’s impending divorce well. Fans have felt some attachment to the Slaton sisters since they first got introduced to the duo in season 1 of TLC’s 1000-Lb Sisters. Viewers watched as the sisters struggled through their weight-loss journey and ultimately began rooting for them to succeed.
Due to their excessive weight, the sisters could not lead normal wives for most of their teenage and adult lives. So when Amy began to progress in her weight-loss journey, it was a great joy to the viewers who already felt like part of her story. The icing on the cake that proved Amy was finally getting an everyday life was when the reality star married Michael Halterman and started a family. Fans watched the nuptials between the two on the TLC show and quickly became invested in their family.
It didn’t take time for the family to increase as the pair welcomed their first child, Gage Deon Halterman, in December 2020. Last July, they welcomed their second son, Glenn Allen Halterman. Everything seemed to be going great between the two until rumors of a divorce emerged earlier this season. Eventually, recent reports confirmed that Michael filed for divorce from Amy in a Kentucky court on March 13.
1000-Lb Fans Think Michael Is A Supportive Husband
The show’s viewers have been in disbelief since the news of Amy and Michael’s divorce first surfaced online. Most of them saw the couple going the distance, and much of that sentiment came from how invested Michael seemed in the relationship. Michael won fans’ hearts because he has supported Amy and Tammy through the weight loss journey. He was always urging her on and never complained whenever she called on him for assistance, which was usually a lot.
Since the divorce was made public, fans have been talking about the couple and have had very nice things to say about Michael. On Reddit, one user, u/Lexifer31, started a mega thread to discuss Amy and Michael’s divorce. Many of the show’s fans expressed shock at the divorce reports while detailing Michael’s support throughout their marriage. One user u/djohnson2577 said:
“I really hope this isn’t true, Amy and Michael have been through a lot together, and Michael has really been there for Amy and Tammy. I’m wondering if TLC has made this up, but the EPO is real if it’s online? Did they show up for court date?”
1000-Lb Sisters Fans Are Concerned About Amy and Michael’s Kids
Many emotions go into building and maintaining a relationship, and these feelings heighten when it evolves into a marriage. This is why divorces are always complicated and sometimes emotionally draining for both parties. However, when there are kids involved, they are the ones that take the most brutal hit. Psychologically, kids find it difficult to process their parents’ separation and can act out in different ways. Children generally love the feeling of having both parents around, so when that is taken away from them abruptly, it can have dire psychological effects.
As the conversation progressed on the mega thread on Reddit, fans quickly switched focus to Amy and Michael’s kids. Many fans expressed concern for the children as they navigate this difficult period. One Redditor, u/Jodette345, commented,
“I’m sure there are two sides to the story. I feel for the kids, though. I really thought Amy and Michael would make it. Maybe it’s for the best.”
For children, there is no getting used to having a broken home. So, Amy and Michael must bring on their A-game when co-parenting their kids. Hopefully, the two can also find some happiness as they navigate their lives away from each other.
