The 2021 Ryûsuke Hamaguchi Japanese indie film ‘Drive My Car’ is currently a Best Picture contender in this year’s Academy Awards Ceremony. The 2022 Oscar nominee is up for four categories at this year’s Academy Awards. While the 94th Academy Awards are approaching later this month, Japan’s ‘Drive My Car’ continues to build buzz wherever it goes. On Friday, March 11th, 2022, the 45th Japan Academy Film Prize ceremony was held at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takawana in Tokyo. 2022 Oscar-nominated ‘Drive My Car’ went on to win eight prizes at the ceremony.

At the Japan Academy Film Prize ceremony, the 2022 Oscar nominee took home awards for Best Picture along with Best Director (Hamaguchi), Best Screenplay (Hamaguchi & Oe Takamasa), and Best Actor (Nishijima Hidetoshi). ‘Drive My Car’ also won awards for cinematography, lighting, editing, and sound recording.
