When you think about 4X grand strategy games, what words come to mind? If you know gaming lingo, you might recall that “4X” is an abbreviation of “explore, expand, exploit, exterminate”. These are fitting descriptors for the genre, but what about the word “story”? Some titles offer a campaign mode that guides the player toward an overall goal, and many games feature established lore. However, in terms of an actual narrative, 4X players are often left to their own devices. If you’ve ever found yourself pining for some plot in one of these games, then stay tuned. 1C Entertainment announced today that they are working with Kalla Gameworks to publish The Pegasus Expedition, a 4X grand strategy game with a storyline.
According to today’s press release, The Pegasus Expedition will include standard 4X gameplay, as well as “a strong narrative side”.
“The Pegasus Expedition is a story-driven sci-fi grand strategy game set in a key moment for humankind’s survival. Facing an overwhelming threat at home, humanity sends an expedition to the Pegasus Galaxy in a desperate attempt to find a refuge for the population of Earth, only to find themselves in the middle of an interstellar war they inadvertently started.”
The Pegasus Expedition will combine traditional 4X gameplay with a storyline
As the head of this expedition, the player is responsible for the well-being of everyone on the expedition. According to today’s press release, players will manage the usual elements of a grand strategy game, such as war and economic development. They will also make difficult decisions that will influence the outcome of the story. It will be interesting to see how The Pegasus Expedition tells its story through this gameplay.
Are you looking forward to The Pegasus Expedition? Are you on the fence about it? If the answer to either of those questions is “yes,” then you might be glad to know that you can try the game for yourself next month. A demo of the game will be available during Steam Next Fest, which begins on June 13. The full release is scheduled for sometime later this year.
