It is a year of big anniversaries for Marvel, and now Luke Cage is getting in on the action. Artist J. Scott Campbell has helped celebrate some milestone anniversaries for some of Marvel’s greatest heroes. They include the Hulk, Thor, Ant-Man, and, most recently, everyone’s favorite wall-climbing Spider-Man. Now, Luke Cage’s 50th anniversary will be commemorated on the cover of the upcoming fourth issue of Daredevil. The issue features a limited edition anniversary cover of the one and only Power Man.
Celebrating 50 years of Luke Cage!
This year, Luke Cage celebrates his 50th anniversary of defending the streets. The hero has had quite the adventure in his five decades with Marvel. Not only has he defended the streets as a solo fighter and Hero for Hire, but also as a member of the iconic Avengers team and everything in-between.
This variant cover from Campbell features the crime fighter in his iconic Power Man suit. Plus, like all of the artist’s other anniversary covers, it is available in a retro version and as a virgin cover.
Speaking to Marvel, Campbell shared that it is a “thrill and honor to create cover art celebrating the anniversary.” Furthermore, he wanted to ensure that the images have “a visual bridge from the pulpy 4 color origins of these monumental heroes to the modern day coloring”.
What Is Next For The Hero?
With the events of Devil’s Reign over, Luke Cage finds himself as the newly-appointed Mayor of New York City. Readers will see what kind of Mayor Cage proves to be in the pages of various Marvel comics. They include Chip Zdarsky, Marco Checchetto’s Daredevil, Jim Zub, and Sean Izaakse’s Thunderbolts. If Cage’s resume as a superhero, dad, and husband are anything to go by, he will surely do a fine job keeping New York safe. After all, he can’t be any worse than his predecessor Fisk, can he?
You can celebrate 50 years of Luke Cage with Daredevil #4 on October 12.
