There’s a Back to the Future musical coming to Broadway. While that may sound odd, this is by no means the first Broadway theater show inspired by a famous film. From the Lion King to Spider-Man (yes, really), there have been many shows built around iconic movies. In some smaller theaters, the show ran back in 2020 and is now getting its big Broadway break. If the buzz is to be believed, it’s a must-see for fans of the series and fans of live theater—a ‘best of both worlds’ situation.
Back in Time
As many recall, the films had a soundtrack that slapped—featuring Huey Lewis and the News, among others. So using those songs (and some originals) will hit the nostalgia nerve for many. The show has been running since 2020, with rave reviews across the board. Now, even more, people will be able to see it.
The Twitter account they have set up is ablaze with activity.

The Back to the Future musical premiered in the Manchester Opera House in 2020. The show then transferred to the West End. Stage actor Olly Dobson plays Marty McFly, while Roger Bart perfectly plays Emmett Brown, both of whom are featured in the Broadway teaser. All the original songs for this Broadway show are composed by theater alumni Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard. A true classic reborn for a new audience.
The Back to the Future Broadway musical is also going mainstream at a time when more people needed to be distracted by fun things. A light-hearted musical about time travel is just what the world needs when everything else seems to be circling the drain.
