Previews for Iron Man #20 reveal a Marvel wedding is on its way. Christ Cantwell’s Iron Man run will continue with the billionaire popping the question to Patsy Walker, aka Hellcat. The two superheroes seem an unlikely couple at first but have quite a bit in common. Hellcat’s answer to the big question will be revealed when Iron Man #20 releases on May 30.
Who is Hellcat?
Hellcat is the superhero name adopted by Patsy Walker. With no discernible superpowers, Walker used her instincts and natural athletics to occasionally aid the Avengers. The character would go on to join the Defenders, where she would meet her future husband, Daimon Hellstrom. However, that marriage would end in Walker’s suicide.
Hawkeye would accidentally resurrect a newly powered Walker and resume her role in the Defenders. However, she would now focus on battling the occult and the supernatural forces on Earth. The character would go on to play minor roles in the lives of other heroes, including She-Hulk and Jessica Jones. The character was also a part of the Jessica Jones Netflix series.
Recently, she has teamed up with Iron Man himself as he attempts to turn over a new leaf in life. Together, the two heroes fight crime while doing some soul-searching and bonding. Against the backdrop of all the world-saving, the two have fallen in love. Now, it appears wedding bells could be in the Avengers future…unless Hellcat gets cold feet.
How Did We Get Here?
Chris Cantwell’s take on Iron Man has been exciting for the philanthropist billionaire playboy. Stark has traversed the galaxy, gained new cosmic powers, and now found love. Speaking to Marvel, Cantwell shared this about the upcoming engagement issue: “Both Patsy and Tony have gone through fundamental transformations in this story. And as the dust settles, and Tony sees Patsy as this phenomenal force in his life, he does the only thing he can think to do to keep her near him and connected: he proposes they be together for the rest of their lives.”
Of course, Hellcat has had some unfortunate luck in marriage before. An occurring theme for Marvel weddings. Plus, Tony is not exactly the epitome of relationship success. How and if these two will make it to the alter is anybody’s guess.
Tony will pop the question in Iron Man #20 on May 30, and an Iron Man/Hellcat Annual will follow it in June.
