Marvel has announced that a new age of Captain America is quickly approaching. This Spring two ongoing series will see both Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers don the stars and stripes. Rogers will take charge in Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty while Wilson takes over in Captain America: Symbol of Truth. Both series will kick off in Captain America #0.
What is Issue #0?
Captain America #0 will see both Wilson and Rogers team up. Releasing in April, the one-shot focuses on the duo in the aftermath of an attack by Armin Zola. Writer Jackson Lanzing explained to Entertainment Weekly that it is essentially a conversation between the two Captain Americas. It focuses on what being Captain America means to each of the men. From there, the two will go off to explore being Captain America in their own series.
What Will Sam Wilson Get Up To?
Captain America: Symbol of Truth will kick off in May and puts focus on Sam Wilson. Written by Tochi Onyebuchi with art by R.B. Silva, the series will really dive into the character of Wilson. Likened to a “globe-trotting spy thriller”, the series will explore how the world reacts to a Black Captain America. Therefore, it will deal with Wilson as he dives into the murky foreign policy of America. It will solidify Wilson as the face of Captain America and what that means to the world at large. This may tie in to the upcoming MCU film with Anthony Mackie’s Captain America.
How About Steve Rogers?
Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty will put the focus back on Steve Rogers as the shield-slinging hero. Beginning in June, the series will be written by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing with art by Carmen Carnero. While Wilson becomes the Captain America the world sees, Rogers will work internally. As such, he will explore what it means to be Steve Rogers and where Steve ends and Captain American begins.
This new age of Captain America kicks off on April 20 with Captain America #0. The one-shot will be co-written by Kelly, Lanzing, and Onyebuchi with art from Mattia De lulis.
