Actor Tim Considine, known for his role on the American sitcom My Three Sons, has died at the age of 81. His is the latest of many recent actor deaths, including Sarah Forke and Kirk Baily. Considine starred on My Three Sons as the eldest son Mike from 1960 to 1965 when his character was written off the show. According to Variety, he also had roles in serials from The Mickey Mouse Club, including Frank Hardy in “Hardy Boys” and Spin Evans in “The Adventures of Spin and Marty.” He reprised the latter role in 2000 in a TV movie, The New Adventures of Spin and Marty.
In 1959, Considine starred in The Shaggy Dog, where he worked alongside actor Fred MacMurray. A year later, MacMurray became Considine’s TV father on My Three Sons, which focused on a widower raising his three sons. Stanley Livingston played the youngest son Chip on the show. According to Deadline, Livingston expressed his grief of Considine’s passing in a Facebook post saying, “Tim and I have been friends for more than 70 years. He will be missed by all those who knew him. I love you, Bro.”
My Three Sons ran from 1960 to 1972, making it one of the most successful sitcoms of its era. Considine was on the show for five years before choosing to exit. His character Mike was written out with a marriage. To keep with the show’s title, the character Chip’s best friend Ernie (played by Livingston’s brother Barry) was adopted into the family. Considine went on to make appearances in TV shows such as The Fugitive, Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Iron Side, and Medical Center. Another Bonanza guest star, Sally Kellerman, also passed away recently.
Tim Considine mostly retired from acting in the subsequent years, focusing on his passions for writing, photography, and automobiles. One of his most famous photos is one of singer Joni Mitchell that appears on the cover of her album Blue.
