According to Comicbook, Adult Swim has just announced the release date for their brand new show, Smiling Friends, and along with that we also got a new trailer to see what this wildly absurd adult-centric block of Cartoon Network has in store for us this time around. Hold on to your butts:

It’s Easier To Smile
Smiling Friends centers around Charlie and Pim, with Charlie being the taller, meaner, yellow one and Pim the shorter, much more lighthearted, purple one. They both work for an up-and-coming company by the name of Smiling Friends Inc. that tries to bring happiness to help people and whatever those other characters after who call into their hotline due to them being depressed. Just from the trailer alone, you can already see the mix of cutesy-looking characters with some possibly dark undertones and if I know my adult swim shows, that is exactly what is in store when this premiers on January 9.
The two men behind Adult Swim’s new show are Zach Hadel and Michael Cusack, who are not only the showrunners but they also voice the two leads with Hadel voicing Charlie and Cusack voicing Pim. Hadel even went as far as to mention that they expect eight episodes for the pilot season. Both have been writing for animated shows before Smiling Friends, with Hadel getting his start on Newgrounds back in 2009 and Cusack having started his self-titled YouTube channel back in 2006.
Funny enough, the Smiling Friends pilot episode premiered back on April 1, 2020, as part of Adult Swim’s yearly April Fools Day event which also featured another Cusack-created animation named YOLO: Crystal Fantasy.
