Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has appeared on television for his first major interview since leaving office, revealing how he’s been spending his time: he’s been drawing cows. In an interview with TalkTV and former UK Culture Minister Nadine Dorries, Johnson went into detail on his newfound quest to “master the form of the cow”, information that’s left many audiences scratching their heads.
Boris Johnson resigned the office of Prime Minister on July 7th, 2022, following a scandal in which Chris Pincher, a senior member of Parliament, was accused of groping two men at a drunken party at a private members club, leading to Pincher’s resignation on July 1st. According to CNBC, Pincher’s scandal was the first in a wave of political resignations in which multiple members of Boris Johnson’s government resigned one after the other, including finance minister Rishi Sunak and health secretary Sajid Javid, who reportedly resigned within minutes of one another on Tuesday, July 5th.
Even after Boris Johnson formally resigned on Thursday, July 7th, the now-former Prime Minister was hunted by allegations that he and his colleagues had attended “multiple parties” at Downing Street during 2021 and 2022 when the rest of the UK was struggling under harsh COVID-19 guidelines; including a gathering that was held on the eve of Prince Phillip‘s funeral, according to TIME Magazine.
Inside Boris Johnson’s Bovine Habit
In the months since his resignation, the world may have been wondering what Boris Johnson has been up to, and in an interview with Nadine Dorries on Friday Night With Nadie, he’s revealed that he’s been filling a sketchbook with detailed pictures of cows, of all things.
“Cows are actually far more difficult to draw than you think,” Johnson said on his first major TV interview. “How many toes on the front does a cow have? It’s two, and they’ve got a little thing on the heel. And what do you call that bit of the cow? I think it’s called the withers. What do you call the back of the knee of the cow? The hock.”
They repay a lot of study,” he later continued, according to Deadline. “So, I’m filling a book now with cow. Pictures of parts of cows, and a lot of whole cows and my objective is to master the cow. I’m getting there. Next stop the horse after that.”
While the immediate reasons behind Boris Johnson’s new cow-related habit are unclear and pretty baffling to most, this isn’t the first time he’s shared the details of the odd things he chooses to fill his time with. In a 2019 interview with TalkRadio, Johnson reportedly shared that he was in the habit of salvaging old crates and through a bit of handiwork, turning them into old buses.
After moving the topic past his cow drawing habit, Boris Johnson gave a brief comment on the scandal that drove him from office last year, stating that people were “’out of their mind’ to think that he was ‘knowingly going to parties that were breaking lockdown rules in Number 10 [Downing Street] and then knowingly covering up parties that were illicit,'” per Deadline.
The political implications of the former Prime Minister’s new cow-related habit remain unseen. What do you think of Boris Johnson’s new idea to study cows? Let us know in the comments!
