Alan Wake Remastered Review Consensus
All around, the title seems to be getting mostly 8/10s, indicating this refreshed adventure holds a lot of merit. Across the majority of reviews, the sentiment seems to be that Alan Wake Remastered is the greatest way to experience the cult classic. Game Informer’s Andrew Reiner said the title is “Well worth revisiting over a decade later to see how your theories hold up.” while AGC’s Jeremy Penter said it’s “A very good remaster with solid technical improvements where they can be applied and transparently allowing the Alan Wake story to be experienced again or the first time.”
While many echoed strong opinions, some others were slightly more critical of the remaster. These opinions seemed to center on the fact that, beyond visual flair, the title did little to improve upon its other aged mechanics. IGN’s Tristan Ogilvie said Alan Wake Remastered “is a fairly inessential upgrade for existing fans” but that newcomers were sure to be in for a treat. Push Square’s John Cal McCormick was even more critical, citing that “For existing fans, this no-frills remaster is the best way to experience the 2010 game on modern consoles, but in 2021, much of the title simply doesn’t hold up.”
All in all, it seems that Alan Wake Remaster will go down as a fairly solid remastering, even if nothing spectacular. Once you get the chance to play it tomorrow, be sure to let us know what you think. We’d love to hear your thoughts.
