As you venture throughout the Lands Between in Elden Ring, you will eventually be afflicted by a number of debilitating status effects that have an impact on your Tarnished’s performance. When you are afflicted, a Gauge Meter will show up on your screen. And depending on the type of ailment, some effects automatically build up and fade away, while others have to be filled by attacks that inflict that particular status. Here is the list of all status effects you will encounter in Elden Ring and how you can heal those ailments.
Elden Ring – List of All Statuses and Their Effects
Like in other Souls games (or most action RPGs in general), status effects will apply various kinds of ailments to both yourself and your enemies. In Elden Ring, it seems you have a higher chance of inflicting ailments or status effects on an enemy when you perform a sneak attack.
Instant Death
- A type of curse that once fills up will instantly kill you no matter what. Forcing you to respawn in a Site of Grace.
- Mitigated by the Vitality stat, increased by adding points to Arcane.
- Cured by:
- Resting in a Site of Grace.
Frostbite
- Meter will fill up every time you take Frostbite-applying attacks. Once Frostbitten, you will take increased damage from enemies and other sources.
- Mitigated by the Robustness stat, increased by adding points to Endurance.
- Cured by:
- Resting in a Site of Grace.
Hemorrhage
- Builds up from Bleeding attacks. Once the Hemorrhage bar fills, you will take a huge percentage of damage relative to your max HP.
- Mitigated by the Robustness stat, increased by adding points to Endurance.
- Cured by:
- Resting in a Site of Grace.
- Item: Stanching Boluses.
Madness
- The meter builds up from Madness-applying attacks. Your Tarnished will go mad, losing a lot of HP and FP.
- Mitigated by the Focus stat, increased by adding points to Mind.
- Cured by:
- Resting in a Site of Grace.
Poison
- The Poison meter will fill itself over time. Once filled, you will take damage until the meter is depleted.
- Mitigated by the Immunity stat, increased by adding points to Vigor.
- Cured by:
- Resting in a Site of Grace.
- Item: Neutralizing Boluses.
- Incantation: Cure Poison, Flame, Cleanse Me.
Rot
- Also known as Red or Scarlet Rot. Like Poison, once the meter is full, you will take damage over time until it empties.
- Mitigated by the Immunity stat, increased by adding points to Vigor.
- Cured by:
- Resting in a Site of Grace.
- Item: Preserving Boluses.
- Incantation: Flame, Cleanse Me.
Sleep
- Your Tarnished become drowsy and will sleep once the meter is full. Weaker characters will instantly fall asleep once afflicted instead.
- Mitigated by the Focus stat, increased by adding points to Mind.
- Cured by:
- Resting in a Site of Grace.
- Item: Stimulating Boluses.
Other Status Effects in Elden Ring
Aside from the status effects listed above, there are also other kinds of buffs and debuffs that you can gain or inflict on your character in Elden Ring:
- Poise buff: From Baldachin’s Blessing.
- Guard counter buff. From Curved Sword Talisman
- Jump attack buff: From Claw Talisman.
- Fire damage negation buff: From Flamedrake Talisman.
- Bow’s effective range increased: From Arrow’s Reach Talisman.
- Stamina-reducing attacks buffed against blockers: From Hammer Talisman.
- Runes preserved upon death once: From Sacrificial Twig.
- Holy attack buffed but lowers damage negation: From Sacred Scorpion Charm.
- HP down debuff: Embraced by Fia the Deathbed Companion in the Roundtable Hold.
