Carol Burnett‘s contributions to comedy will forever remain a resounding legacy as she’s set to celebrate her 90th birthday, hoping to thrill fans with a special. At the same time, she shared her perception of modern comedy.
Carol Burnett began her comedy career in her 20s in 1959. Initially, she was discouraged by a top official at CBS who told her it was “a man’s game.” The same person emphasized that comedy was for stars like Milton Berle and Dean Martin. But in a bid to dissuade her, the words strengthened her conviction.
Burnett found a mentor in Lucille Ball. They worked together and became close friends until Ball’s demise in 1989. The “The Carol Burnett Show” host carried on with her career and built a formidable legacy that has been recognized. She has received a host of awards, including one Grammy, six Emmys, and six Golden Globes.
Carol Burnett’s comedy chops is not the only thing that speaks for her. She is a seasoned actress and, to this day, remains strong in the game. She has starred in numerous hit shows, including the “Better Call Saul” series. Soon, she will be celebrating a new age, and Burnett is over the top!

Carol Burnett Compares Comedy of ‘Before and Now’ As She’s Set For a Birthday Special Celebrating Her 90th Year
Carol Burnett, set to hit 90 on April 26, looked to her first love for the perfect celebration. A birthday special titled “Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love” will be released in her honor. This would see Burnett in her element— staging acts for laughter.
This birthday special, recorded in March, will include comedy, singing, dancing, and hearty laughter. Performers in the two-hour clip include Bernadette Peters, Katy Perry, and Kristin Chenoweth. It would be a star-studded event with seasoned guests like Cher, Steve Carell, and Amy Poehler.
Ahead of its release, Carol Burnett talked to a Fox correspondent about her birthday special. In a humorous tone, she admitted that it was not a roast. Also, it was not a typical birthday with balloons and cakes. She shared:
“It was a two-hour variety show. We had a 19-piece orchestra and I had so many friends who were there…the live entertainment…was really exciting.”
The comedienne explained that it was a great party for every attendee. While speaking on the peculiarities of her birthday special, Carol Burnett swerved to modern comedy. She talked about the classics, maintaining that they possessed something lacking in the new shows.
The old shows will forever be etched in her heart, but while Burnett misses them, they may not come back. The onscreen star added that the cost of producing such will be unbearable for networks.
