Amanda Brugel has officially been announced as the latest addition to the cast of The Driver, a drama series set to release on AMC and AMC+ next year. Best known for her role as Rita Blue in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, Brugel will reportedly hold a recurring role in the upcoming AMC series.
Originally based on a 2014 British drama series of the same name, AMC’s The Driver will feature Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul) as Vince, an average taxi driver whose life is turned upside down when he signs on as a driver for “The Horse” (Zackary Momoh), a Zimbabwean gangster based out of New Orleans who’s earned a reputation for exploiting undocumented immigrants in the southern United States.
Who is Amanda Brugel in ‘The Driver’?
Amanda Brugel joins The Driver in a recurring role as Sister Anne, an eccentric nun who’s covered in tattoos but, despite her outward appearance, is completely devoted to God and her order. According to Deadline, “[Anne’s] past with Vince is mysterious and she continues to be his confidant when life gets tough.” Alongside Esposito and Brugel, Skeet Ulrich (Scream), Paula Malcomson (The Hunger Games), and Bonnie Mbuli (Noughts + Crosses) will also star.
Aside from her long-running role on The Handmaid’s Tale, Brugel’s acting career also includes roles such as Pastor Nina Gomez on the CBC sitcom Kim’s Conveinience (2021) and as Eugenia on the TV series Snowpiercer (2020), where she acted alongside big names like Daveed Diggs, Sean Bean, and Jennifer Connelly.
The Driver will be executive produced by Esposito, Sunu Gonera (Pride), Theo Travers (Billions), and Danny Brocklehurst (Brassic) along with David Morrissey, who placed Vince in the original British series. Josh Kesselman and Danny Sherman will serve as producers for Thruline Entertainment, alongside Barry Jossen and Tana Jamieson for A+E Studios.
