Amazon has officially announced the development of a TV series based on the bestselling Atlee Pine series by novelist David Baldacci. The project will be headed by writer Aeysha Carr, who has also worked on popular shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Carmichael Show, along with upcoming projects for Apple TV and other big names.
Beginning with The Long Road to Mercy, published in 2018, the Atlee Pine series by David Baldacci features the eponymous Atlee Pine as an FBI Agent assigned to the Grand Canyon. But amidst the gruesome murders she solves, Atlee harbors an even darker past – the death of her twin sister, Mercy, after the two girls were kidnapped at just six years old. The series, which continues A Minute to Midnight (2019), Daylight (2020), and Mercy (2021), follows Atlee’s struggle to balance her career with her search for answers about what happened to her sister, why her parents disappeared, and the revelation that not everything about her kidnapping is what it seems. The Florida-Times Union describes the series as “Baldacci at his best.”
Aeysha Carr to Develop ‘Atlee Pine’ Series for Amazon
With the announcement that the Atlee Pine series will be adapted into a TV series, Amazon has also revealed that Aeysha Carr will head the series as a writer and executive producer alongside Erwin Stroff and Oly Obst for 3 Arts and Lionsgate, respectively. Also on Carr’s plate is the upcoming Apple TV dramedy Government Cheese starring David Oyelowo; her past works include acting as a producer for Born Again Virgin (2015), Rel (2018), and Woke (2020).
Deadline reports that the Amazon adaptation of Atlee Pine will be the second adaptation of one of Baldacci’s novels, following TNT’s King and Maxwell (2013), based on the Sean King and Michelle Maxwell series, following two disgraced Secret Service agents that embark on a new career as private investigators. The show has a 7 out of 10 rating on IMDb – whether or not Atlee Pine will receive the same reception is impossible to tell.
A release date for Amazon’s Atlee Pine series hasn’t been announced yet.
