AMD has announced its latest Radeon graphics card aimed at the entry-level PC gaming market, the RX 6500 XT. The new RX 6500 XT comes in under the price of the current models on offer from AMD. It will be released on January 19 for $199. Judging by the current state of the graphics card market, though, actual cards will be priced higher than that.
The Radeon 6500 XT is aimed at the majority of PC gamers who currently have lower-end graphics cards. AMD used the Nvidia GTX 1650 and AMD Radeon RX 570 as their examples for the kinds of cards from which it expects future RX 6500 XT owners to be upgrading. Check out the performance comparisons for the RX 6500 XT in the picture above.
The price-to-performance value for the RX 6500 XT as a 1080p card is undoubtedly impressive. AMD listed the expected FPS for the games below on its website. The company claims “up to” the following performance for the RX 6500 XT at 1080p with high settings.
- Resident Evil Village – 108 FPS
- Back 4 Blood – 105 FPS
- Age of Empires IV – 95 FPS
- Call of Duty: Vanguard – 61 FPS
- Halo Infinite – 78 FPS
- Farming Simulator 22Â – 115 FPS
- Fortnite – 104 FPS
- Apex Legends (max settings) – 91 FPS
All of the frame rates listed above are without AMD’s Fidelity Super Resolution, which provides big bumps for games that it supports. For example, Call of Duty: Vanguard receives a bump of 56% on AMD’s new 6000 series laptop integrated graphics while using FSR. That boosts the FPS up to 114 FPS on 1080p with low settings. It’s not clear what the boost would be in Vanguard on the RX 6500 XT, but look out for those benchmarks after the card releases.
The AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT graphics card launches on January 19 for $199. Expect prices from third-party manufacturers to differ when the new card is actually released, although hopefully not by as much as other cards recently released.
