The trailer for the horror-comedy American Carnage has dropped, thanks to Collider. The film starring Jenna Ortega (Scream) follows a group of young detainees from ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) who are given a deal to serve people in a nursing home. What transpires is a mystery about what is happening, plenty of violence, and body horror. It will be available On Demand and in theaters on July 15th.
Leading the blood-soaked horror film will be Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Bumblebee) as JP. With him in this deal to get their charges dropped are Ortega, Allen Maldonado (The Wonder Years), Eric Dane (Euphoria), and Bella Ortiz for her first major film.
Filmmaking duo Julio and Diego Hallivis wrote together, with Diego serving as director. Previously, they have worked on other smaller projects like the sci-fi thriller Curvature, which Diego directed and Julio produced.
Jenna Ortega continues her gory streak in horror. American Carnage makes this her fourth venture into the genre this year after Scream, Studio 666, and X. In 2020, she was in The Babysitter: Killer Queen and the year before in the second season of Netflix’s You, which may not be horror but is certainly creepy, to say the least. Later in the year, she will be back on Netflix with Tim Burton’s Wednesday, with Ortega starring as the titled character. She is also confirmed to reprise her role for Scream 6.
The 101-minute horror flick will be distributed by Saban Films. Both Diego and Julio Hallivis will produce. Andres Rosende and Rocco Giamatteo will produce too, with Braden Aftergood executive producing.
You can read the official synopsis of American Carnage below:
After a governor issues an executive order to arrest the children of undocumented immigrants, the newly detained youth are offered an opportunity to have their charges dropped by volunteering to provide care to the elderly. Once inside the eldercare facility, the volunteers discover the governor and the facility’s supervisor have cooked up a horrifyingly depraved conspiracy that endangers the young and the old in this twisted thriller-comedy.
