The American Gigolo trailer highlights Jon Bernthal in his sexiest role to date as he plays a sex worker in the Showtime follow-up of the 1980 film of the same name. The series will run for 10 episodes on Showtime on September 9th.
Playing as Julian Kaye, the American Gigolo trailer shows his story (and plenty of steamy shirtless scenes) as he looks for truth while struggling with his identity. The original film was written and directed by Paul Schrader and starred Richard Gere. The series will take place 15 years after those original events when he was arrested for murder. While he looks for who framed him for murder, he tries to get his personal and professional footing in Los Angeles’ sex industry scene.
Jon Bernthal Leads American Gigolo Trailer
The order for the series came in last June. In May, we got the first look at Jon Bernthal in American Gigolo with a teaser trailer. It seems to satisfy fans of the film, hinted by playing Blondie’s Call Me, which became a hit song that soared to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks when the film was released.
While the American Gigolo trailer looks like it had a smooth ride to get here, it has had plenty of bumps in the road to reach this final stretch before it premieres. COVID-19 led to plenty of delays in its production. Right when things were moving. Sexual misconduct allegations were raised against the original creator and showrunner David Hollander left the production. It is currently unknown who replaced him as showrunner, but things got figured out for the show to move forward.
Gretchen Mol (Boardwalk Empire), Rosie O’Donnell, Lizzie Brocheré (American Horror Story), and Leland Orser (I Am the Night) will join Jon Bernthal in the series. You can watch the American Gigolo trailer to get ready for its release on Showtime on September 9th.
