Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a social simulation game that allows players to live on an island with animal villagers. It also features co-op through local networks and online connection with Dodo Airlines, allowing you to play with others and visit islands. While you may opt to give someone a tour of your island, fish with them or trade resources, you can also play pranks on your visitors and villagers. An unsuspecting visitor can walk onto the trap and fall into it by digging a pitfall seed into a hole and covering it. By the end of this guide, you will learn how to find pitfall seeds in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
How to Find Pitfall Seeds in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
The main way to find pitfall seeds is to craft them. Animal Crossing: New Horizons offers multiple ways you can obtain pitfall seeds recipes:
- Find messages in bottles on the sand near the ocean.
- Shoot down balloons with your slingshot.
- Talk to villagers for a chance to obtain the crafting recipe.
- Buy the DIY crafting recipe from Nook’s Cranny for 900 bells.
If you do not want to leave it up to chance, you can head to Nook’s Cranny and buy the recipe for 900 bells. Head inside the building and head to the floral section on the right side of the store, and scroll down until you find the DIY recipe. Once you have the recipe, head to any workbench to begin crafting your pitfall seeds.

When you find a workbench, you will see the pitfall seed recipe. You need four clumps of weeds and six tree branches for every pitfall seed you craft. Once you craft a pitfall seed, you can dig a hole into the ground and place the seed inside. Cover the hole again, and it will appear as an X on the ground much like a buried fossil.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available on the Nintendo Switch.
