Since Animal Crossing: New Horizons launched back in March 2020, its overwhelming success has meant that the latest installment in Nintendo’s social simulation series has become more than just a game — it is also using being used as a convenient platform by various entertainment and marketing outlets. Gary Whitta is using the game to host a popular late-night talk show, while top fashion designers are showcasing their latest styles using the game’s custom design tools.
Now, police have used the latest Animal Crossing title to successfully solve a lost item case.
According to a report from CTS (translated by Chinese Nintendo), a Taiwanese man by the name of Mr. Jheng recently misplaced his Nintendo Switch and his Animal Crossing game while at a local ATM. Fortunately, someone later found the console and turned it in to the police.
At first, the police had difficulty identifying the Switch’s owner. They did, however, have access to Mr. Jheng’s New Horizons save file, and one officer decided to use the in-game mail system to contact someone on Jheng’s friend list.
“Hello. This is the police station at East Helping Rd, Daan branch, Taipei City,” the letter reads. “The Switch has been parted from its owner and was turned in. We do not have other means to contact the owner, so please help us and reach out on our behalf so they can recover it.”
The officer’s creative approach worked out, as shortly after the friend received the in-game mail, Mr. Jheng was reunited with his Nintendo Switch and his Animal Crossing game.
In other recent news, New Horizons players have discovered yet another glitch that enables them to gain access to the forbidden “fourth level” of the game.
