We’ve barely had any warning for what would come in the new year in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the January update is already here! Following along from the recent Winter Update, players firing up their Nintendo Switches and New Horizons today will be treated to a fresh new download containing the Festivale event (which is inspired by Mardi Gras and the Brazilian Carnival, if you couldn’t tell by the green and yellow color scheme), and all of its goodies.
The Festivale itself will take place on February 15 (so a day after Valentine’s, fun!) and will be introduced by Pave, a colorful peacock who never wants to stop dancing (and who can blame them?). On the Festivale day itself, you’ll spot colorful feathers flying around your Animal Crossing island. If you decide to catch them with your bug-catching net, you’ll be able to trade them with “Mr. Partybird” (name not official, sadly) Pave for a special dance number. Just look at the trailer above! How could you not want to witness those moves?
Furthermore, you’ll occasionally be able to find rainbow-colored feathers, and if you’re able to snag them, Nintendo says you’ll be very inclined to give them to Pave. You’ll be able to invite friends over to your Animal Crossing island (as well as join theirs) and partake in the festivities together.
There are new seasonal items to buy from Nook Shopping (including a cute little Mr. Resetti model in honor of Groundhog Day and a football-shaped rug to commemorate the upcoming Super Bowl). You can also get new Reactions that are Festivale themed via a pack in Nook’s Cranny, alongside new Festivale-themed outfits in the clothing store.
There aren’t many details on what we’ll see come to Animal Crossing: New Horizons after this update, although we do know that Mario-themed items will be landing on your islands before too long. When we know more we’ll let you know.
