With the recent success of most superhero properties, Marvel and DC have plenty of upcoming films and tv shows. While Marvel continues its series of high-budget and quality live-action shows, it seems DC is rounding out their animated HBO Max series. DC has always produced television series through the CW, and recent shows like Titans are veritable efforts to bring in more viewers. With Zack Snyder’s Justice League being one of the only DC properties produced for HBO Max, DC is looking to produce more. Despite plenty of upcoming content in the works, a more ambitious Batman project is also on the way. A new show is set to premier spawning from the minds of J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves, alongside veteran Batman animator Bruce Timm. Batman: Caped Crusader is set to premiere exclusively on HBO Max and Cartoon Network.

What Could This New Series Do Differently?
While the details on what this new series will look like are thin, speculation is already running wild. With descriptions for the new series stating it to be a “reimagining of the Batman mythology” is exciting. Citing sophisticated and thrilling noir roots paired with masterful storytelling provided by Abrams and Reeves. Alongside the best-in-class animation based around the original Batman: Animated Series, the new show has big shoes to fill. The Animated HBO Max series teases a more mature and closer look into the psyche of Bruce Wayne. Bringing in two new writers like Abrams and Reeves to provide that new perspective was key. Alongside the announcement is of course the key visual teaser which harkens back to the original animated shows poster.
