Something massive is coming to Apple TV+. According to a new report from Deadline, Apple TV+ has struck a new deal with Legendary Entertainment to expand their Monsterverse to small screens everywhere. To achieve this, Apple TV+ has ordered a new live-action Godzilla and the Titans series.
The streamer’s Godzilla and the Titans series will be produced by Legendary Television and executive produced by its co-creators, Chris Black and Matt Fraction. Chris Black will also serve as the showrunner for the series. Other executive producers include Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita, who represent TOHO CO., LTD., which is the company that owns the Godzilla character.
Apple TV+’s Godzilla and the Titans series will expand on the Monsterverse seen in movies like Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of Monsters (2019), and Godzilla vs. Kong (2021). It will specifically follow a family from San Francisco who have been shocked by the events of the 2014 Godzilla movie. The family soon uncovers secrets linking them to Monarch, the organization responsible for tracking and dealing with MUTOs (massive unidentified terrestrial organisms) in the Monsterverse. More details on the plot on how involved Godzilla and other titans will play in the series are sure to be released in the coming months as more work on the series takes place.
Expansion of the Monsterverse has been in talks for years but quickly became more serious after the debut of Godzilla vs. Kong last year. Despite the ongoing global pandemic, Godzilla vs. Kong was a box office hit, earning nearly half a billion dollars worldwide. The other films in the Monsterverse series have also been monetarily successful, bringing in almost $2 billion at the global box office.
