Riot Games dropped a plethora of bombs during their 10th-anniversary stream. There are so many things to talk about and speculate on. However, some of those bombshells stand out from the rest. Specifically, Riot’s announced intent to go fully cross-media is uniquely exciting. The developers of League of Legends have partnered with Marvel and are working on new comics; but at this point, this is old news. The true shocking development is Arcane Riot’s animated series!
Devout fans of the lore of League of Legends have been waiting years for Riot to make this cross-media jump. The reveal of Arcane puts this long wait to an end. This series kicks off a hopefully extensive cinematic journey into the world of Runeterra. From the looks of things, hardcore fans are thrilled at the idea of seeing this world animated and on their television screens.
While it remains unclear precisely who all of the main characters of Riot’s first animated series are, some hints are present in the trailer. To begin with, it is made clear in the trailer that Arcane will take place in the region of Piltover and Zaun. Based on the trailer, there seems to be a strong focus on the infamous chem barons who run the underworld of Zaun. Lore buffs will be familiar with this group of chemically-enhanced tyrants.
In addition to this, the trailer also hints that Arcane will be an origin story. Specifically, an origin story for fan-favorite characters Jinx and Vi. Since their release in the main game, the relationship between these two characters has been a hit. Fans of the game’s lore and art will undoubtedly love to see the origin of this old rivalry unfold in animated glory. Stay tuned for more news on Riot’s Arcane series.
