“Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” just debuted on May 4 in the US. One of the leading stars Arsema Thomas, who played the younger Lady Danbury, has recently spoken about her role. The actress explained her experience filming season one. The new series is a fictional drama written by Shonda Rhimes. It settles on the Bridgerton family and how the Queen at a younger age navigated her romance with the King. Despite it being a creation of Rhimes, the series draws its inspiration from real-life characters. It is influenced by the lifestyle of King George III and his wife, Queen Charlotte. The monarch ruled from 1760 to 1820. He shared fifteen kids with the Queen.
“Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” is a Prequel To “Bridgerton”
The new Netflix series shows Queen Charlotte’s life as a younger woman. It is a prequel to “Bridgerton.” Fans would recall that the first time the series appeared on their screen was in 2020.
The “Bridgerton,” was written by Chris Van Dusen. So far, it has released two seasons. The second premiered in March, last year. Fans have already been assured of a third and fourth season. Its setting was based on the Regency era and how tight-knit relatives of noble birth navigate their lives.
Stars on the series included Golda Rosheuvel who played Queen Charlotte, Julie Andrews, and Adjoa Andoh. Other names on the lineup are Jonathan Bailey, Ruby Barker, Harriet Cains, Ruth Gemmell, and Bessie Carter.
Expectedly, for the “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” some cast members were added to suit the story. Sam Clemmett plays young Brimsley. Meanwhile, Corey Mylchreest and India Amarteifio starred as the younger King and Queen. Actress Arsema Thomas, who had never watched the series before her feature, is also a new face on it.
Arsema Thomas Shares Her Filming Experience As A Younger Lady Danbury
Arsema Thomas did not expect to star in “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story as the sharp-tongued Lady Danbury. Before making an appearance, she had wondered what the buzz was about the historical drama. She never watched “Bridgerton ” even as a fan of Rhimes. She told an E! News correspondent about her obsession with Rhimes’ “Scandal,” and “How To Get Away With Murder.”
While filming Thomas was in awe of the writer, and she showed it. Though Rhimes was not on set as often as the other crew members, she inspired the actress. Thomas admitted that she was a “potential mentor” for her.” There were other non-screen personalities who left an imprint. Thomas explained that a group of four black women were her closest buddies on set. She interacted more with them because of her role.
But that did not mean she never had a great working experience with other stars. Thomas recalled a graphic scene with Amarteifio, the young Queen Charlotte, in “A Brigerton Story.” She admitted that it was the first scene they filmed. Though the women spoke about intimate matters, it turned out to be her favorite. She shared:
“To just be able to come in with a very graphic scene and film with this Pomeranian that had its own temperament and did not care what the schedule was like… I really am excited for people to watch it.”
