The 2019 People’s Choice Awards was hosted last night, with some big hitters taking the award home. In particular, Avengers: Endgame scooped up the award for Best Movie. This news is unsurprising when considering the film’s box office success. Avengers: Endgame surpassed James Cameron’s Avatar this year to become the highest-grossing movie of all time.
So, it bears mention of whether the film will meet success at next year’s Oscars. This is unlikely to happen. There is something of a typecast for the movies at the Academy Awards. However, Black Panther did pick up three Oscars at this year’s ceremony. Those being for best original music, costume design, and production design. Imagine if Robert Downey Jr was nominated for Best Actor though!
Avengers: Endgame Shares the Stage
While it is amazing that Avengers: Endgame took this award home, there are many more interesting wins to discuss. Sticking with the theme here, Robert Downey Jr took home the Male Movie Star Award. And, in a beautiful gesture, dedicated the award to the late and great Stan Lee. The film also picked up Best Action Movie.
Also, with a further spotlight on Marvel, Spider-Man: Far From Home also grabbed some awards. Tom Holland and Zendaya took home the Action Movie Star and Female Movie Star awards, respectively. Zendaya also won the Drama TV Star award for Euphoria.
Other notable names include Jennifer Aniston, Cole Sprouse, Jimmy Fallon, and Kevin Hart. This was Hart’s first public appearance since his serious car accident in September. So, it’s good to know he’s on the mend!
Now, with the summer blockbuster season over, it’s time to see what future awards are to come. The time for drama is upon us (unless you live in the UK like me and have to wait until the new year for these releases). But, let us not forget, that Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker is almost upon us and the buzz around Avengers: Endgame may be about to disappear!
