The Tekken Tournament is at it again with a whole new season! The team behind Tekken 7 announced another Tekken World Tournament for the 2019 season. Bandai Namco Entertainment is holding a Tekken World Tournament starting April 2019. There are over twenty-five different locations for the tournament. The first stop is in Lyon, France. The Tekken Tournament is set to go around the world with many other locations. These locations include countries such as the United States, South Korea, Sweden, Australia, and many others. The tournament is dated for April 2019 to November 2019, with the finals being decided on a later date. The Tekken World Tournament finals are set to play in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Tekken World Tournament is set to have a few changes this season. The tournament is set to have twenty players face off against one another. The twenty players are determined by their rankings on the TWT’s Leaderboards. The eight-month season will allow players to earn the TWT Ranking Points necessary to make the list of twenty. Once the list of twenty is confirmed, they will go to the Last Chance Qualifier Champion in Bangkok, Thailand.
Gamers will be able to play in the tournament’s different categories. Those being the Master Plus, the Master, the Challenger, and the Dojo categories. The Master Plus is the max value category exclusive to the Evolution Championship Series. This category awards Ranking Points to players in 1st place all the way to 49th place. The Master category gives players Ranking Points in 1st through 25th place. The Master category is where glory can be attained! The Challenger category allows for regional opportunities for the players to obtain Ranking Points. Dojo is brand new to the Tekken World Tournament for 2019. The Dojo category allows for players to opt-in and play for Ranking Points. For more information on how the Dojo category works, the smash.gg website will be the place for it.
The ranking of the points is distributed differently per category played. Players will gain more points or less depending on the type of category they play. For example, the Dojo 16 plus category gives the first place player just 25 Ranking Points. Where the first place player of the Master Plus category gains 550 Ranking Points. The player rankings as well will be determined by best three scores of the games in the specific category. The Ranking Points are then totaled to give the player their rank.
Even if a player doesn’t get into the finals in Bangkok, there are still winnings to be had. Each category carries Prize Money for each place ranking in USD. Unfortunately, TWT does not have any overlapping tournaments during the season. It’s the finals or nothing!
