The Batgirl Film News Twitter account has shared set photos revealing Brendan Fraser’s Firefly costume. Fraser’s casting was announced in October, and this is our first time seeing him in full Firefly attire. The costume is quite similar to what we’ve seen with other versions of Firefly, which have appeared in comics, video games, and TV shows. This costume includes the mask, tanks, and tubes that are synonymous with the character. Fraser’s portrayal of the sociopathic arsonist Garfield Lynns, a.k.a. Firefly, is the first live-action movie portrayal of the famous villain who will be the antagonist to Leslie Grace’s Barbara Gordon, a.k.a. Batgirl, who is the daughter of Commissioner James Gordon (J.K. Simmons).

Movieweb reports that this will be the first film portrayal of Batgirl since Alicia Silverstone portrayed the character in the critically panned Batman and Robin from 1997. She will be taking on Firefly as he seeks to set Gotham aflame. This film will also see Michael Keaton reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in both this film and The Flash. Keaton hasn’t played this character since 1992’s Batman Returns.
Brendan Fraser became a household name in the late 1990s and early 2000s with roles in The Mummy film series and George of the Jungle (1997). He also starred in Bedazzled (2000) and Monkeybone (2001). He portrayed the title character in the live-action adaptation of Dudley Do-Right (1999). His role as the villainous Firefly will be the 53-year-old actor’s first appearance in the DC Extended Universe. Time will tell if he will make future appearances.
A release date for Batgirl has not been set, although executive producer Michael Ulsan has said that it will be in the month of December 2022.
