DC is reviving Batman: The Brave and the Bold as an anthology series this May. It falls under DC’s year-long “Dawn of DC” initiative that is currently underway. This classic DC title has been home to many of Batman’s most iconic team-ups and adventures. It is also a launchpad for some of DC’s best characters. Now, Batman: The Brave and the Bold will include stories around the titular Dark Knight and other characters throughout Gotham.
Batman: The Brave and the Bold
Per CBR, the first issue kicking off the new anthology series is an oversized one. Featuring 64-pages, Batman: The Brave and the Bold #1 tells four different stories. The first is a tale crafted from the creative team of Tom King and Mitch Gerad. The duo begins work on a four-party start focusing on the “bloody clash” between the Joker and Batman. DC is advertising this story as possibly “the most frightening Joker story” yet!
The next story features the writing debut of artist Dan Mora. He offers up a series of Batman Black & White short stories. A short synopsis promises a bunch of cybernetic Joker henchmen and a “motorcycle-riding, bat-costumed hero of urban legend”. Meanwhile, the third story in the first issue is from Ed Brisson and Jeff Spokes. It features a StormWatch team defending the planet from deadly villains. It kicks off the “Down with the Kings” event.
Finally, Christopher Cantwell and Javier Rodriguez kick off the “The Order of the Black Lamp” storyline. It sees Superman on a mysterious quest after discovering a ring with the message “Save Me” on it.
Dawn of DC Continues…
Again, this is all part of DC’s “Dawn of DC” initiative. Or rather, a multi-event narrative spans multiple titles published throughout the year. Batman: The Brave and the Bold is just one of many series released under the event. It all kicked off back in January with Action Comics #1051. This arc follows the events of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earthsand DC Universe: Lazarus Planet. Those stories featured some of DC’s greatest heroes facing the toughest moments of their lives.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t bode well for our favorite heroes and these bigger and braver stories.
